Advertised as a remarkable weight loss supplement, Metabo Slimax is taking the nutritional industry by storm. Distributed by a company of the same name, Metabo Slimax claims to help stop fat production, suppress your appetite and increase serotonin levels to prevent you from binge-eating.1
What is Metabo Slimax made from? – Devoid of chemical additives, fillers, binders and preservatives, Metabo Slimax is made with 100% natural ingredients, the main one being the extract of the Garcinia Cambogia fruit. The supplement is claimed to be produced in an FDA registered and GMP Certified Lab in the USA.1

Calcium: 50mg – As an essential mineral for overall health, calcium supports proper muscle function, bone formation and acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain. Calcium ions have been shown to aid in weight management by possibly augmenting lipid metabolism, improving thermogenesis and increasing one’s bone density.2
Chromium: 200 mcg – Involved in the metabolism of fast, protein and carbohydrates, chromium is another mineral important for human health. Chromium supplementation is claimed to decrease body fat and improve lean body mass.8,9
Potassium: 50 mg – Potassium is a versatile mineral that helps regulate hormone secretion, balance electrolytes and assist in energy metabolism. It also acts as an effective natural binder with hydroxycitric acid (HCA), and has been noted to support energy and muscle strength, while helping reduce the risk of hypertension.2
Garcinia Cambogia Extract: 1000mg – Garcinia cambogia is a fruit that has been widely studied recently because of its new-found reputation as a weight loss accelerator. It grows in the forests of Southeast Asia and has long been consumed by the local populations as a flavoring agent and condiment.3
Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA) is a natural derivative from the fruit rind of Garcinia cambogia, and is commonly used in weight loss supplements. As with the Metabo Slimax formula, it may be bound to calcium and potassium to make it water soluble and bioavailable.2
HCA reportedly works at multiple levels to improve the body’s functioning and help reduce weight.
Studies suggest that HCA may augment the serotonin levels in the brain, a neurotransmitter associated with appetite control and eating behaviors. In animal trials, chronic supplementation was noted to increase fat oxidation and improve blood lipid levels.2,3 It also has been noted to slow down the production of pancreatic alpha amylase and intestinal alpha glucosidase, partially inhibiting the body’s carbohydrate metabolism.4

Metabo Slimax Side Effects
While we have reviewed the various ways in which the Metabo Slimax ingredients may support a weight loss regime, the question that still arises is ‘is Metabo Slimax safe to consume?’
Toxicity studies on Garcinia cambogia have reported that the extract is generally safe for human consumption.10 With respect to dosage, 2800 mg of Garcinia cambogia extract per day has been administered without serious or adverse reactions.2 However, consumers have reported minor garcinia cambogia side effects, such as headaches, skin rash and gastrointestinal symptoms in clinical trials.10,11
At 200 mcg per dose, Metabo Slimax contains 170% of the daily recommended value of chromium. Very high doses of chromium may influence blood sugar levels. There have also been reports of flushing and stomach irritation as a result of chromium supplementation.12 Those who are diabetic or hypoglycemic should consult with a healthcare provider before taking any dietary supplement that contains chromium.
Does Metabo Slimax Work?
With all the recent media attention, Garcinia Cambogia and HCA have come under the radar of various researchers. In vitro and animal studies do suggest that Garcinia cambogia brings positive changes in terms of appetite control, metabolism and fat loss without adversely affecting the body’s regular biochemical and physiological functioning.2
In a 2007 study, overweight and obese participants took a dietary supplement containing a proprietary blend of Garcinia cambogia for 60-day treatment period. At the end of the study, participants who took the supplement were noted to have an average 4.67% reduction in body weight compared to 0.63% in the placebo group.3 Similar to the Metabo Slimax formula, this supplement also contained calcium.
It has also been suggested that calcium intake can have a positive effect on weight loss when consumed daily over a long period of time. However, a 2013 study noted that higher intake of calcium (1400 mg daily) in overweight and obese subjects did not result in significant weight loss when compared to a control group. Researchers did note that increased calcium intake may help improve satiety and help support reduce fat intake during dieting, or energy restriction.5
