Expert opinion:

Not Recommended

The Keranique hair regrowth system, distributed by Keranique, is a set of hair care products designed to treat hair loss for women. The system includes four main products, a shampoo, conditioner, regrowth treatment, and lift and repair treatment.

Keranique is described as an FDA approved, natural alternative to surgical hair replacement treatments. The products claim to remove built up residue from other hair products, significantly thicken and strengthen hair, and protect against future damage during heating and styling.1

So, exactly what is Keranique, and does Keranique really work? In this unbiased review, we will dig deeper into the science behind the ingredients in the Keranique formula, how to use Keranique, as well as side effects, Keranique hair regrowth treatment reviews, and where you can buy Keranique.

Keranique hair products and keranique reviews

Keranique offers four products in their hair treatment system: a shampoo, conditioner, regrowth serum, and styling & treatment spray.

The active ingredient in the Keranique regrowth treatment is minoxidil.

Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment Ingredients

Many new users wonder what ingredients in Keranique make hair regrow? Does Keranique contain minoxidil?

The Keranique ingredients for hair growth are simple, and include propylene glycol, purified water, alcohol, and 2% minoxidil. Minoxidil is the active ingredient in Keranique, and is responsible for any hair regrowth.

Minoxidil –A medication, which was first used to treat hypertension by oral dosage. More recently, it is being used as a topical hair growth stimulant for both men and women, treating alopecia and other baldness disorders.2

Now that we know what is in Keranique, we can look more closely at the rest of the Keranique hair treatment line, how they benefit your hair, and how to use them. Products include Keranique Shampoo and Conditioner, Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment, and Keranique Lift and Repair Treatment Spray.

The key ingredient in Keranique, minoxidil, was originally used to treat hypertension, but has since been found to be an effective hair growth stimulator.

Keranique Shampoo – Step one in the Keranique treatment system is their scalp stimulating shampoo, designed to remove excess buildup from old hair products, while simultaneously deep cleaning the scalp and follicles. The shampoo contains keratin and pro vitamin B5, to naturally improve the strength and thickness of hair as it cleans.3

Keranique Conditioner –Step two is the volumizing Keranique keratin conditioner, which adds moisture and volume to hair with a keratin amino complex. The keratin complex is described as adding thickness to hair without weighing it down.3

Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment – Step three is the Keranique follicle boosting serum, which includes the main regrowth ingredient, minoxidil. Keranique explains that the regrowth treatment stimulates dormant follicles, so that they begin producing new hair. The serum reportedly helps regrow, and strengthen hair.3

Keranique Lift and Repair Treatment Spray – Finally, step four in the Keranique lineup is the lift and repair spray, which is used similarly to any hair spray, and holds in moisture while retaining style throughout daily activities. Keranique claims that the spray wraps around hair follicles, sealing split ends, protecting hair from heat and the elements, while improving volume and fullness.8

Keranique Side Effects

Possible Keranique hair regrowth treatment side effects listed on the Keranique website include:

  • Chest pain
  • Dizziness
  • Weight loss
  • Sudden rapid heartbeat
  • Scalp irritation
  • Swelling of feet
  • Unwanted excess hair growth

While there are very few Keranique complaints in existing Keranique hair products reviews, Keranique advises users who experience any of the above symptoms to stop use and seek medical attention immediately. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are not recommended to use Keranique.6

Does Keranique Work?

Keranique products claim to strengthen and regrow hair follicles safely, but how does Keranique work, and does Keranique really regrow hair? The Keranique hair treatment containing the active ingredient minoxidil has yet to be explored in scientific research. However, there have been several studies which suggest that the science behind the active ingredient is sound.

Studies have found that even a 1% solution of minoxidil helps initiate significant hair regrowth.

In 2002, a human double-blind study tested a 2% and 5% solution of minoxidil or a placebo on 393 men with alopecia, aged 18-49. Over the 48-week period, men received a topical treatment of either the minoxidil solution or a placebo. Both the 2% and 5% dosages of Minoxidil were successful in significantly improving hair growth, with the 5% solution providing faster and fuller results. This study shows that minoxidil is not only effective for hair regrowth, but that while Keranique is designed for women, Keranique for men may also provide successful results.4

According to a 1987 study, 2% is an effective dosage of Minoxidil for follicle regrowth purposes. The study tested doses of 1% and 5% on 95 patients suffering from alopecia, finding that the 1% initiated significant regrowth, but the 5% had a far greater success rate. Researchers suggested that a dosage between these two dosages would be sufficient for a hair regrowth treatment. The 2% suggested dosage aligns with the dosage listed in Keranique hair regrowth serum.5

While there are no human studies published on the success of Keranique results, many reviews on Keranique describe positive experiences with the line, suggesting that it does work.

Is Keranique FDA Approved?

While Keranique does not have to be FDA approved before going to market, the active ingredient minoxidil does need approval, and has been approved for both male and female hair loss. Keranique claims that it uses the only FDA approved ingredient for hair regrowth.1

However, they also offer a promotional price of $49.95USD, that includes free shipping and handling.3
